All elementary school students visit the computer lab each week. Lessons are coordinated with the classroom teachers to ensure that they are meaningful and contribute to the lesson plan for the week. Each unit is carefully constructed, with a focus on creativity and critical thinking. Students learn how technology can be utilized as a powerful tool in their education and beyond. These foundational skills are critical as students move on to middle school and beyond.
Students learn keyboarding (3rd - 5th graders are encouraged to practice this very important skill at home), word processing, how to conduct research on the Internet both safely and effectively, digital citizenship, presentation software, drawing applications, coding (an increasingly important skill for all students to learn), spreadsheet basics, iMovie, as well as working with many online resources. Every year, students build upon what they learned the previous year. Please check out our Ilan Ramon Day School computer lab website at http://ilanramoncomputerlab.weebly.com/. It includes updates on our weekly lessons as well as links to a variety of educational websites that your child can access from home.
