Thanksgiving Mitzvah Day 2016
Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to give a little of ourselves to others in need. Next Tuesday, November 22, after we celebrate Thanksgiving with song and dance, the students in the elementary school will continue our tradition by undertaking three very important mitzvah projects as a means of giving back. This year at IRDS, we have adopted the following projects:
- Our students will be writing letters to currently deployed Jewish American troops stationed overseas through the organization, Kosher Troops.
Our students will be making “no sew” superhero capes to send to children in shelters through Capes for Kids, an organization whose mission is to give kids an armor of strength, imagination and hope through these homemade capes.
- Our students will be creating special handmade wooden items as part of a beautification project for our campus at IRDS.
Additional ways to give back…and how you can help!!!
In the week leading up to November 22, we will be holding a few donation drives at IRDS and we need your help!!! Please bring in a new, unwrapped toy and/or book to be donated to the Los Angeles Federation’s Annual Toy Drive. The collection box is in the main office.
If you have any new or gently used coats, jackets, scarves, or mittens hanging in your closets, please consider donating them to One Warm Coat, an organization that distributes coats and other warm items to those in need.
Collection boxes will be in the main office and ECE breezeway projects by donating toys, books, and coats to the various drives.
Through all of these wonderful projects, our students will live the values of Tikkun Olam and go into this holiday having given back to others in our community. We hope you will all support these valuable projects by donating toys, books, and coats to the various drives.
